While not a bad movie, Ex Machina was pretty boring. It wasn’t nearly as bad as AI - there was booing at the end of that when I saw it in the theater. No one, to my mind, has done the definitive AI movie.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
And yet I bought the bluray to show the SigOther how bad it was. I wanted my opinion verified that badly.

Guna have to disagree with you here, that movie was great.

There was no real closure - show me her out in the wild for at least a little bit. Also, there wasn’t enough back story on either of the humans characters. I will say that Alicia Vikander did an astonishing job moving like an AI probably would move.

Yep. Agree with you there. There would have been so much temptation to ‘Hollywood-ize’ that film with more pace, more action, more of everything.
I think they did a damn good job of building unease and a really well thought out sense of realism.

Do you consider 2001 an AI movie?
That is the definitive AI movie to me.

If I were that robot, I would ask my creators why they felt I needed to have a nice ass.

I believe this movie isn’t about AI. Two guys, who think they are some kind of geniuses getting fooled by the buggy beta version of electronic sex doll. So I’d say this movie is mostly about arrogance)))

2001: A Space Odyssey is the definitive AI movie for me. I was also underwhelmed with Ex Machina.

The lack of closure was kind of the point. Shes out there capable of so much and the movie doesnt show you what she does out there. Its supposed to freak you out and get you wondering.

Yeah it was outlandish without being completely over the top. Just worked for me overall.

i, Robot was pretty good. I mean, sure it was more action oriented than philosophical but they pulled off the question of free will nicely.

2001 was AI but not a hot chick or a kid walking around AI. Someone will get it right one day.

Fair enough. I just wanted a bit more. Eh - maybe I’ll watch it again (a 3rd time) - I bought the fucking bluray.

Nope - I want a human-like object walking around.

I weighed in below on I, Robot. It’s OK, but there needs to be more than it is.

Saw that, have not seen the remake. They used to run that movie all the time on UHF when I was growing up in DC.

The remake is not very good. There is indeed no definitive humanoid AI movie.

Was that AI, or just wives taking pills? Cannot recall.

Blade Runner?

Hmmm ... which version? And yeah, it’s very good, but it’s as near as makes no difference 35 years old. I want something new and better.

AI, robot duplicates of the wives.

I’d forgotten that part. Perhaps I will hate watch the remake. Nicole Kidman is, after all, easy on the eyes.
